How to Locate and Capture Source Groups for Social Studio
Hello and welcome to another session of Social Studio Training in 5 minutes or less! Today’s focus will be on the importance of source groups and how to capture them for your region.
First and foremost, what is a source group?
Source Groups enable tracking and managing of social listening sources that are important to our company. They are gathered by collecting a variety of URL’s to enhance social listening and topic profiles. The more sources that are input into Social Studio, the better representation and diversity that the program can return.
Let’s get started! After our initial demonstration, an excel template will be sent to you and your team to be completed.
Let’s review the tabs: they can be broken down into 3 categories: Competitor, Industry and Other.
- In the “Competitor Tabs”, companies like Novo and Abbott’s social media page URL’s in your region can be copied and pasted.
- The “Industry Tabs” are created to organize any Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram link where an influencer, diabetes online community, support group, educational forum, etc. may be present. Please note, this is only for social media.
- For all other sites that are not on social media platforms, think influencer bloggers, health websites like JDRF, can be placed in the “Other Diabetes Forums” tab.
Here is how to quickly search and pull source groups for your region.
For social media URL’s, you can use either your personal account, or an RDC account as nothing will be posted. Here is how to find examples on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
In the search bars, type diabetes related keywords such as: diabetes online communities, diabetes support groups, etc. The 2 criteria that makes a source group strong, are the number of followers and the amount of content, or posts.
For the “Other” tab, simply go to Google and search: diabetes support group or diabetes online communities. Explore the results and copy and paste the links that your region would like to monitor closer through your social studio account. Those webpages may lead you to other source groups so do not be afraid to dig a little deeper!
After sources have been located, email the template back to me and I will add them to your workspace! Please note that you can always capture more sources, even after the excel document has been sent. Simply email, or send them to me in a support desk ticket!
